We often have questions from Competitors and Volunteers regarding the HDA Schooling Shows. Some Frequently Asked Questions are listed here:

** Stallions may be ridden by Juniors.

** Ties are broken by collective marks. If collective marks are equal, rides will remain tied.

** Dressage Seat Equitation is open to Juniors and Seniors riding below Second Level.

** At HDA shows, horses participating in Intro level may compete in up to 4 classes/day.

** Riders may compete as Juniors if they are under 18 as of 12/31/08. Riders who turn 18

during the 2009 season will finish out the year showing as Juniors.

** Entries must be received (
not postmarked) BY closing date. Entrants will be responsible
for paying a $10 late fee for entries received after closing date, and rides will be
scheduled at the discression of the Secretary.

** Refunds may not be given after closing date.

** You must be a member by closing date for scores from that show to count towards
Year-End Awards. New members may send their membership forms & fees in with
    their show entries & fees
before closing date.

** Show Management will work together to accomodate schedules for people who will be
    competing and volunteering.

** If you will not be able to compete, please let the Assistant Secretary know so other
riders may be able to fill the scratches.

**
To Qualify for Year-End Awards: a horse-and-rider team must perform the same test
at least twice at two or more competitions, with an average score of 55% or higher.
Rider must me an HDA member when the scores are earned for them to count.
Overall Division Champion & Reserve Champion are determined by averaging horse-
     and-rider's scores from
all tests within a level.

** A horse & rider team may enter a walk-trot-canter class, but once doing so the scores
earned in Introductory level at that or future shows will not count for Year-Ends.

** HDA uses both small and standard sized arenas. Freestyles, Prix Caprilli, and Second
Level & Above tests will be scheduled in the standard arena.

** Horse/Handler/Rider may NOT enter the competition arenas prior to the start of the
compeition. They may walk around the outside of the arenas and judges' trailers until
15 minutes before the first ride is scheduled to begin.
Horse/Handler/Rider may only walk in/around the arena and judges' trailers if/when
both compeition rings are empty and ONLY WITH PERMISSION from the Judges and
     Show Management.

** Riders who wish to school a test but not compete/receive a score may ride "HC".
Please make note of this on your entry forms. You must declare a ride to be Hors
     Concours before it is performed.
